major league playoff preivew: pittsburg pirates!
When i was four sid bream and barry bond took the bucs to the playoffs, to play in the golden glory of october baseball... and then nothing until now, and now i'm 28 years old.
for years man-sized anchors named damaso marte and brian giles sunk the pirates in to a dark chasm of playoffless baseball. It seemed like the bucs may never again have hopes of playing baseball on halloween.... until now. The Pirates made it to the playoffs once again by locking in a wildcards spot under the invaluable tutelage of manger clint hurdle.
The next challenge for the Pirates was to knock the Reds out in the NL wild card game, and they did jsut that. After the game a chamapgne soaked andrew mcutcheon told reporters "we really made them walk to plank", while hometown hero neil walker said with a smile "i'm so proud of my fellow swashbucklers". Looks like all things are a good bunch of gravy for pitsburgh! Until today... Today the pirates were taken to task by adam waneright of the st louis carnivals. The 9-1 loss is a major blow to the pirats ego but after 21 years of built up tension there is a good amount of fight left in thge buckaneers and i would not count them out. get ready for one heck of a series!
